Sofia Macchi Watts

Sofia Macchi Watts is a writer from Edinburgh, currently based in Glasgow. A recent English Literature graduate of the University of Glasgow, she has written and staged various short form plays with Student Theatre at Glasgow, as well as producing and directing shows for the company. Most recently, she has written and staged a contemporary adaptation of Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. During a semester abroad at the University of Melbourne, Sofia was accepted to study part of the Masters Writing for Performance Course at the Victorian College of Arts under playwright Raimondo Cortese. Sofia’s theatrical writing centres on relationship studies, selecting short but significant encounters or conversations, often between strangers, and exploring how those encounters might go on to shape the individual lives of characters. Aside from her theatrical writing, Sofia’s academic research interests include popular romance and Gothic fiction, and she is applying to pursue a PhD in this field.
